Tree trunks (2017)

"Tree Trunks" consists of three wooden chests from the 18th, 19th, and 20th century placed on the top of three tree trunks in a sculpture park in Odense|Denmark, the city of Hans Christian Anderson. Referencing Anderson’s fairy tale “The Flying Trunk,” "Tree Trunks" makes passersby—hikers, bikers, runners, and people walking their dogs—wonder about the mysterious content of the chests. Painted with weatherproof glossy boat lacquer, the trunks stand out from their environment. By placing the trunks at an inaccessible height--12, 15 and 18 feet high--the piece activates the imagination of viewers and the forest itself. "Tree Trunks" refers to the many told and untold stories of the forest and of the people passing through. The project is the outcome of a three-week artist's residency in summer 2017.
